Our Mission
Inspired by the intelligence and
emotional wisdom of young people, we create professional theater,
foster inclusive community,
and nurture meaningful learning
through the arts.
Overview
- Founded in 1973 by artists/educators Zaro Weil and Lynn
Rubright
- Served estimated total audience of
nearly 2 million people
- Tours nationally to major venues and rural communities in
40 states
- Tours internationally,
including Canada, Japan,
Italy, and Taiwan
- Performs in major venues such as Kravis Center (West Palm Beach, FL), Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), Krannert Center
(Urbana,
IL)
- Performs in hundreds of theaters, schools and community centers
- Conducts classroom
residencies which use drama as a tool to explore a wide variety of
curriculum areas
Honors
- Metro Theater Company received
FOCUS St. Louis' 2006 "What's Right With The Region" award for
Creating Quality Educational Opportunities for young people.
- Carol North Received Grand
Center Visionary Award for "Outstanding Professional Artist,"
2003
- Carol North invited to Taiwan
to conduct workshops and lectures on children's theater, 2003
- Invitation to perform at the Taipei
International Children's Arts Festival in Taiwan, 2002
- Opened ASSITEJ One World Theater Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center in 2000
- Toured Japan as only invited U.S. company in major international festival

- Won Excellence in the Arts award, Arts
and Education Council of Greater St. Louis,
1998
- Won Missouri Arts Award for outstanding artistic contributions to the state,
1997
- Recipient of three national awards from the American Alliance for Theater and Education
- Institutes for teachers cited as a model program in national publications on arts
education
- 23 consecutive years of funding for artistic excellence from the National Endowment for the Arts
- Recipient of Shubert Foundation and Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund grants, among
